From Swallow Sidecars to Jaguar
Jaguar's story leads back to Blackpool, a seaside town in the north of England, where Bill Lyons founded the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922. The firm began in modest upstairs premises with only a handful of workers.
The Jaguar name first announced itself in 1935 on an entirely new range of saloon and sports cars. Toward the end of the 1960s the company produced a series of saloons aimed at a narrower segment of the market, and after a change in its capital structure in 1984 Jaguar recorded significant growth and development.
The marque has been associated with the Daimler name since 1960 and has long taken pride in its most luxurious and best-selling models carrying that badge. In 1990 the company was acquired by Ford.
Grace and power define the brand — so much so that Jaguar changed the leaping-cat mascot on its cars to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians in a collision, fitting a plaque bearing the jaguar image to newer models instead.
